For more than four decades, Tadeusz Szczęsny, M.Sc. Eng., contributed to shaping the development of the Polish dairy industry, uniting the expertise of a technologist, manager, and visionary leader with the ability to foresee emerging industry horizons. Concluding his active professional tenure, he closes a momentous chapter of his career, leaving an enduring mark on the history of the Dairy Industry Innovation Institute in Mrągowo and the broader dairy sector.

He embarked on his career path backed by thorough professional training—as a graduate of the Dairy Technical School in Białystok and the Faculty of Food Technology at the University of Agriculture and Technology (ART) in Olsztyn. In 1983, he joined the District Dairy Cooperative in Baranowo, and two years later aligned his professional journey with Mrągowo. There, he served successively as shift manager, department head, and milk powder production plant manager, ultimately rising to chief technologist. In parallel, he shared his expertise with the younger generation as an educator at the in-plant Dairy Vocational School.
The next chapter of his career was with the "Mlekpol" Dairy Cooperative, where he served as Deputy Director at ZPM Mrągowo, responsible for production, engineering, and innovative technology implementation. In 2004, he was appointed Director of Innovation and Development at SM Mlekpol and was entrusted with the mission of establishing a cutting-edge research and development facility for the Polish dairy sector from scratch.
To explore leading global trends in dairy science and processing, he completed numerous study visits to dairy plants around the world (including Israel, Portugal, Germany, Sweden, Austria, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Switzerland, Italy, the USA, Russia, and Ukraine).
Between 2004 and 2009, as Director of Innovation and Development (R&D Department) at SM Mlekpol, he oversaw comprehensive research initiatives and the implementation of state-of-the-art technologies across the company's manufacturing plants. The scale of these initiatives exerted a profound, lasting impact on the entire sector. Among the premier accomplishments of this era was launching the "Milko" line of probiotic fermented beverages—encompassing kefirs, yogurts, and buttermilks—as well as calcium- and vitamin-enriched UHT milk. A hallmark among these successes was "Maślanka Mrągowska" (Mrągowo Buttermilk)—an iconic product that has stood the test of time and remains one of the preeminent category benchmarks in Poland.
In 2010, the Innovation and Development Department he established was transformed into the Dairy Industry Innovation Institute (IIPM) in Mrągowo, with Mr. Szczęsny stepping in as its inaugural President. Under his stewardship, the institution launched its operations, executing its founding projects and erecting the organizational and scientific framework that underpins its work today.
From 2015 onward, he served as Director of Technology and Implementation, actively advancing technological development, industrial partnerships, and the deployment of innovative solutions across the dairy sector.
He participated in key national and internationally funded projects:
- "Establishment of a Research and Development Center by the Dairy Industry Innovation Institute", Sub-measure 4.5.2 of the Innovative Economy Operational Programme, 2007–2013.
- "Food and Nutrition in the 21st Century – Vision for the Development of the Polish Food Sector", Sub-measure 1.1.1 of the Innovative Economy Operational Programme, 2007–2013.

- "Pasta-Filata Type Product with Health-Promoting Properties" under the NCBR NUTRITECH Programme.
In addition, he served as head of the Industry Contact Point for EU Research Framework Programmes at SM Mlekpol in Grajewo. For his distinguished, long-standing service to the nation's dairy industry, he was awarded the Silver and Gold Cross of Merit.
As the saying goes, every ending marks the beginning of something new. Following decades of intense professional commitment, the time has come for new endeavors—more moments with family, music, DIY crafting, and all the personal passions previously set aside. While this professional chapter concludes, his curiosity about the world and creative passion remain as vibrant as ever.
